Reunification at House of Grace-Ghana: Strengthening Family Connections

For the girls of House of Grace-Ghana, the end of the school year brings more than a break from the classroom. It also brings an important opportunity to reconnect with family, return to their villages of origin, and strengthen relationships that are an important part of their future. This month marks Reunification, as many of our younger girls leave House of Grace-Ghana to spend several weeks with members of their extended families.

Reconnecting Girls With Their Families

Reunification is an important part of residential care for children in Ghana. Whenever it is safe and appropriate, children living in group homes are given opportunities to maintain relationships with extended family members and their communities of origin. For the girls at House of Grace-Ghana, that means spending their school break with relatives in their home villages.

Each girl prepares for her visit by packing clothing and personal belongings along with food and other provisions for her stay. Global Servants and the House of Grace team work to help ensure that the girls have what they need while away from the home.

But reunification is about much more than traveling back to a village. It is about connection and belonging.

During these weeks, girls may spend time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. They have opportunities to learn more about their families, participate in village life, build relationships, and create memories that can remain with them for years to come.

A Journey Filled With Many Emotions

Returning to family can bring a mixture of emotions. There is happiness in seeing familiar faces and excitement about returning to a home village. There can also be uncertainty about leaving the routines, friendships, and security the girls have experienced at House of Grace.

That is why prayer is such an important part of Reunification.

Our prayer is that every girl will be welcomed, protected, encouraged, and loved during her time away. We pray that relationships will be strengthened and that each girl will recognize that God is present with her wherever she goes.

We also pray that the girls themselves will be a blessing to their families. The love of Christ they experience at House of Grace does not remain within the walls of the home. These young ladies have the opportunity to carry that love into their families and

communities.

Education Continues at Trinity Foundation School

Reunification comes at the conclusion of another school year for the younger girls attending Trinity Foundation School in Kumasi. Located on the same campus as House of Grace-Ghana, Trinity Foundation provides a quality Christian education for the girls of House of Grace as well as children from the surrounding community.

Education is a vital part of the mission of Global Servants in Ghana. We believe protecting a girl today is only the beginning. Giving her access to education, spiritual development, healthy relationships, and opportunities for the future helps prepare her to pursue the big destiny God has placed before her. When the new school year begins, the younger girls will return to House of Grace and resume their studies at Trinity Foundation School.

Our Older Girls Are Pursuing Their Big Destinies

While the younger girls enjoy their school break, many of the older young women connected to House of Grace-Ghana are continuing their education. They are already enrolled in university and pursuing degrees that once may have seemed far beyond their reach. These milestones represent something much bigger than academic achievement. They represent years of prayer, protection, education, encouragement, and investment. Girls who once needed a safe place to call home are becoming educated young women preparing to serve their communities, build careers, raise families, and become leaders.

That is what we mean when we talk about Saving Little Girls for Big Destinies.
