A Special Reunion in Honduras

Global Servants

This past week brought a very special reunion to Gathering Hearts for Honduras as we welcomed Gary and Cheryl Kuney back to Honduras.

It was an especially meaningful blessing to have Gary return following his recent health challenges. We thank God for His faithfulness and for giving Gary the opportunity to once again be in Honduras, surrounded by the people and ministry that mean so much to him.

For Gary and Cheryl, Honduras represents years of relationships, ministry, prayer, and service. Their return was more than a visit—it was an opportunity to reconnect with dear friends and see firsthand how God continues to work through the ministry they have invested so much of their lives in.

A Joyful Reunion with the Gathering Hearts Team

On Friday, the Gathering Hearts team gathered with Gary and Cheryl for a wonderful time of fellowship.

It was an opportunity to spend time together, share stories, and thank God for their lives and the many ways they have faithfully served the people of Honduras.

Their presence was a tremendous encouragement to the team. Ministry is built not only through programs and projects but through relationships formed over years of serving, praying, and believing together. This visit provided a special opportunity to celebrate those relationships and God's faithfulness through every season.

A Special Sunday at TEE

The celebration continued on Sunday when Gary and Cheryl were warmly welcomed at TEE.

The congregation gathered around them in prayer, asking the Lord to continue strengthening, guiding, and blessing their lives and the ministry.

For those who have served alongside the Kuneys through the years, having them back in Honduras was a powerful reminder of the relationships that have been built through Gathering Hearts. It was a time to give thanks for the past while also looking with expectation toward what God will continue to do in the future.

Tommy Reid Returns to Serve

Tommy Reid of Tulsa, Oklahoma, traveled with Gary and Cheryl to serve and assist during the trip. Tommy joined the congregation at TEE, greeted the church, and shared in a special time of worship and fellowship.

His service also extended beyond the church walls.

Tommy joined visits with pastors in surrounding villages to personally deliver invitations for upcoming Discipleship Training in August and September. These visits provided another opportunity to strengthen relationships with local pastors and encourage those who faithfully serve their congregations and communities.

Preparing for Discipleship Training

The upcoming Discipleship Training will be an important opportunity to invest in pastors and ministry leaders throughout the region.  In August and September, First Methodist Church will join Gathering Hearts in this effort, helping encourage and equip those serving on the front lines of ministry in Honduras. Strengthening local pastors and churches is an important part of creating lasting ministry impact. When leaders are encouraged, equipped, and discipled, that investment extends into their congregations, families, and communities.

Please pray for the pastors and ministry leaders who will participate, for safe travel from the surrounding villages, for those leading the training, and for the First Methodist Church team as they prepare to serve.

Thankful for Faithful Friends

This week has given us much to be thankful for.

We are grateful that Gary was able to return to Honduras. We are thankful to have Gary and Cheryl together again with friends and ministry partners they love. We are grateful for Tommy's willingness to return and serve, and we are thankful for every pastor, church, team member, and ministry partner who continues to invest in the people of Honduras.

Most of all, we thank God for His faithfulness.

Through changing seasons, He continues to bring people together, open doors for ministry, strengthen His Church, and provide opportunities to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

Please continue to pray for Gary and Cheryl, the Gathering Hearts team, TEE, the upcoming Discipleship Training, and the pastors and communities we have the privilege of serving.

A Note from Travis Rutland

Gary and Cheryl have built relationships in Honduras that go far beyond projects or programs. Their love for the pastors, churches, and communities here is evident everywhere you go. We are grateful for their faithfulness and for the strong foundation they have helped establish.

As Gathering Hearts for Honduras moves forward as a ministry of Global Servants, we are honored to come alongside what God has already been doing here. Our commitment is to honor that legacy, strengthen these relationships, and help this ministry continue reaching people with the love of Christ for many years to come.”
