Bupae, Patcharaporn, Nichapha, and Malisa, who serve as dorm leaders at House of Grace-Thailand, recently attended a Child Protection Policy update workshop in Chiang Rai. The training helped them learn about current policy updates and deepen their understanding of child safeguarding practices.
Equipping Dorm Leaders to Care Well
Dorm leaders play an important role in the daily lives of the girls at House of Grace. They help create a stable home environment, provide guidance and encouragement, observe changes in behavior, and serve as trusted adults the girls can turn to when they need help.
Because they work so closely with the girls, continued professional development is essential. This workshop strengthened the dorm leaders’ ability to recognize potential risks, respond appropriately to concerns, maintain healthy boundaries, and apply child protection standards throughout daily campus life.
The goal is not simply to understand a written policy. It is to put that policy into practice through every interaction, decision, and aspect of care.
Learning to Recognize, Prevent, and Respond
Child protection training helps caregivers identify warning signs, understand reporting procedures, and create environments where children feel safe speaking with trusted adults.
The House of Grace dorm leaders will use what they learned to strengthen:
- Daily supervision and care
- Healthy boundaries between children and adults
- Responses to safeguarding concerns
- Communication and reporting procedures
- Online and technology-related safety
- A culture of dignity, trust, and respect
By continuing to learn and improve, the dorm leaders are better prepared to meet the emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs of the girls entrusted to their care.
Working Together to Protect Children
The workshop was connected with organizations and government agencies committed to protecting vulnerable children.
ECPAT Foundation Thailand, also known as the Foundation to End Child Sexual Exploitation, is a nongovernmental organization working to prevent and protect children from all forms of sexual exploitation, including risks involving modern technology and communication.
The foundation promotes cooperation among government agencies, private organizations, communities, parents, children, and young people. It is also a member of the global ECPAT International network.
The Chiang Rai Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, part of Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, provides social welfare and protection services throughout the region. Its work includes initiatives related to child protection, anti-trafficking, gender equality, and community resilience.
Training opportunities like this help strengthen cooperation among those who share the responsibility of protecting children.
