From Evangelism to Discipleship: God Is Moving in Honduras

Global Servants

God is moving in powerful and personal ways across Honduras.

Through Global Servants’ ministry in Honduras, visiting mission teams are working alongside local pastors and ministry leaders to share the Gospel, disciple new believers, encourage churches, and reach the next generation.

One recent outreach provides a beautiful picture of what Kingdom partnership can accomplish. A visiting mission team traveled into villages to share Christ one-on-one. Then, local ministry leaders followed behind them—returning to homes and communities to help those who responded to the Gospel begin growing in their new faith. Evangelism opens the door. Discipleship helps build a foundation that can last for generations.

Memorial Heights Team: Sharing Christ One by One

A mission team from Memorial Heights Baptist Church in Claremore, Oklahoma, recently joined our ministry partners in Honduras for a special time of outreach. Their mission wasn't centered on large crowds or big events. It was about people.

Team members traveled into villages and communities, meeting people face-to-face, listening to their stories, praying with families, and sharing the hope of Jesus Christ one person at a time.  As a result of this outreach, more than 100 people made personal decisions to follow Christ. We celebrate every one of these decisions. But we also recognize that accepting Christ is the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith. That's why the work that happens after an outreach is so important.

Raising Up Young Leaders Through Sports Evangelism

One of the ways Global Servants is helping reach the next generation in Honduras is through sports evangelism. The local sports park provides a natural gathering place where neighborhood children and young people can come together to play soccer, build friendships, and connect with Christian leaders and mentors.

But the goal is much greater than a game. Through these relationships, young people are hearing the Gospel and being invited into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Many have made decisions to follow Christ through these outreach efforts.

Even more encouraging, some of these young believers are now becoming an important part of our Village Ministry efforts. They are helping with church services, participating in youth meetings, serving alongside local churches, and sharing their faith with others.  The young people who were once being reached are now helping reach others.

Discipling the New Believers

Evangelism is only the beginning. Under the leadership of Pastor Nelson Osorto, the discipleship team is returning to villages where people have recently accepted Christ. Through home visits, Bible studies, prayer, personal encouragement, and spiritual guidance, the team is helping new believers understand God's Word and establish a strong foundation for their faith. This follow-up ministry is especially important because many of these believers live in communities where access to ongoing Christian teaching and discipleship can be limited.

Rather than simply celebrating decisions made during a mission trip and moving on, our goal is to help cultivate lasting spiritual growth. We want to see new believers become disciples—and disciples become leaders who can share Christ within their own families and communities. As a result, over 100 villagers made personal decisions to follow Christ—the fruit of months of prayer and preparation. These were no chance encounters, but divine appointments made possible by your faithful support and intercession.

A Note from Travis Rutland

"One of the things that encourages me most about our ministry in Honduras is seeing the Gospel continue to work long after a mission team has gone home. More than 100 people responding to Christ is something worth celebrating, but that's not where the story ends.

"Pastor Nelson and the local ministry team are there building relationships, teaching God's Word, and helping new believers grow. Young people who were once reached through outreach are now serving and helping reach others.

"That's the kind of ministry we want Global Servants to support—sharing Christ, strengthening local leaders, and helping build something that continues from one generation to the next. Thank you for helping us serve the people of Honduras."

— Travis Rutland, President, Global Servants
